Day 44 of the Wu Flu Lockdown

Sunday, April 26th, 2020

We cheated today.

The Texas Craft Brewers Guild had a promotion going this weekend:

We… Me, Mrs. White Rock Kitchens (SWMBO) and The Deuce went out to get some beer to go from Community Beer Co.  South West Imperial Lager (SWIL) is a very good and very strong beer.

Then we met some of his friends in a parking lot. It was a nice afternoon. After the impromptu tail gate we spent some time with a family of friends. It really was a good afternoon.

Dinner was great.

Day 43 of the Wu Flu Lockdown

Sunday, April 26th, 2020

Missed yesterday. The day 44 post may be late too. We are going to have an impromptu tail gate party later today as it is The Great Texas Beer Run weekend.

Yesterday was the Deuce’s b’day. We have a nice dinner of bbq purchased from Ten Fifty BBQ. It was very nice.

The Ace and her man were over too. So we sorta violated the house arrest edict.

Day 35 of the Wu Flu House Arrest

Saturday, April 18th, 2020

Missed a day again.

Dallas County demands we wear masks. Clay Jenkins is going to get me out to vote for the first time in years. I’ll be voting for his opponent.

Season 6 of Bosch has started. We watched an episode last night.

The Deuce returned from Oxford last night. SWMBO is reporting that her facebook account has been hacked. Hmmm…

Progress continues on the Fermentorium.

And there is always something that will make you smile in Powerline’s Week in Pictures. I do wonder if the stuff they post is all old hat to people that use facebook?

Day 33 of the Wu Flu House Arrest

Thursday, April 16th, 2020

Going up a day late. I was working on the fermentorium all day long.

All are good here in Cellblock H.

The Deuce may be returning soon from Oxford. But he’s got nothing to do here except playing games, so while I would like him back, I don’t really expect him to be in a big hurry to return.

It is hard to keep up with blogging even when trying to put up a post a day in a mess like the Bat Soup Flu Apocalypse. I am reading stuff and can pass some along, but I figure that my 1 1/2 readers look at the same stuff I look at.

Day 26 of the Bat Soup Flu House Arrest

Wednesday, April 8th, 2020

Not a whole lot to report.

Did some work on the fermentorium today. Made nice progress.

I continue to think this lock down is a bad response. There are certainly arguments in favor of the lock down, such as the fact that the manner in which patients are treated is rapidly evolving. If it was known how to best treat people suffering from Wuhan Flu we could go about our business. And… as someone that might be in a bad way if I caught it, I guess delaying the inevitable for as long as possible may be personally beneficial. Treatment for the virus will get better over time.

I am concerned about the government power grab. The First Amendment is gone. There is no right of assembly. Twitter and others are censoring comment on the shutdown. What makes me really concerned is how much people on the left seem to be enjoying this. Here in Dallas I get the sense that wearing a mask in public is how you signal that you’re not a Trump deplorable. As long as the left are enjoying their display of power, this can go on for a long time. Since so a large percentage of those that are still getting paychecks are on the left (government workers, for example) this house arrest can go on for some time.

I don’t want to have to wait until the left gets tired or some new catastrophe grabs their attention before we get to go about our lives again.

In other news, the Deuce went to see his girlfriend. He got to Oxford with no trouble. It will be tougher coming back as he travels through Lousiana to get back to Dallas.

The Coming Boomercide – Z Man

The Coming Boomercide – The Z Blog

I believe we are headed to what I like to call “The Great Reset.”

Pensions, Social Security, Student Loans, Entitlements, Medicare, Obamacare, Military Adventures Abroad, the list goes on… and on… and, well, it’s obvious no one really knows how long the list is.

It is a simple fact that not all of this can be paid for or paid off. Something has to give?

My current leading expected method by which the establishment will try to fix these problems is with several years of runaway inflation. But the Z Man may be correct. Maybe the youngsters won’t want to share the pain of the inflation with the Boomers (I’m a late stage boomer that didn’t vote for any of this crap. I’m a late stage boomer more worried about his children’s future than whether or not I get a few years of boating in Florida before I slip into dementia). Maybe the younguns will push us boomers off a cliff. Maybe they will have the stones to just stop payment.

I better be nice to the kids.

Draft Registration

Tuesday, December 8th, 2015

One need only have kids the age of the Ace and Deuce to hate the draft registration. It becomes even more aggravating while the Ace flirts with conventional feminism (I do think this is a passing phase, a result of her being a senior in college. While at an all girls high school she had a much better idea about feminism.) The Deuce had to register for the draft. The Pentagon has just opened up all combat billets to women. So why does the Deuce have to register for the draft and the Ace doesn’t?

Volokh:

The Pentagon’s recent decision to open virtually all combat positions to women suggests that the days of male-only draft registration are likely to be numbered. But the best way to achieve gender equality in this field is not to force women to register for the draft, but to abolish draft registration for all. That way, we can achieve both equality and freedom for men and women alike.

And while we are at it, why are those that are forced to register for the draft unable to buy a drink? This is a completely unacceptable state of affairs.

Ole Miss wins a big one!

Sunday, September 20th, 2015

The Rebels hand it to Alabama in Tuscaloosa 43-37. A big win. As is usual with an Alabama loss, there is always someone with some wit:

Roll TideThe Deuce goes to Ole Miss. I bet he had fun last night.

Canoe Dogs

A 35-50lb lab. That is a good idea. Maggie’s Farm.

The breeder.

A little google foo tells me there is another breeder in Oxford.

The Deuce may go to Ole Miss. Maybe I can get a puppy when he invites me to visit on football weekend.

It does look like fun.

Merry Christmas!
